My new solo show “Infinity Patterns - Three Bells” opens this week.
The exhibit at Cecilia Coker Bell Gallery features the debut of three new interactive open-ended sculptural “fieldworks” which visitors can manipulate, re-arrange and document using cameras provided in the gallery. Also on view is a re-presentation of the “Fieldwork at Joan Mitchell Center” sculptural system incorporating a new multi-teared display environment for visitors to interact and create within.
About the “Fieldwork” sculptural system
Thought of as prepared instruments, these sculptural modules draw from my practice of stamp and pattern making to determine their form and finish while remaining open-ended tools with no correct way of functioning. My hope is that this mutable system will begin to allow for an experimental collaboration across time and space, with collaborators not only interacting with my work, but with the traces of other collaborator’s thoughts and actions as well. In this way the work allows for a type of “self”-specific relational fieldwork.
“Infinity Patterns - Three Bells” is on view until Feb 25 at Cecilia Coker Bell Gallery, Coker University, Hartsville, SC
Thanks for taking a look!
And, in case you missed it - here is my 2021 end-of-year studio update
